What
is Kids Voting?
Kids Voting is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan,
grassroots organization dedicated to improving citizen
involvement in democracy by preparing current and future
generations of citizens to participate in government.
We begin with teachers incorporating the highly
acclaimed, hands-on Kids Voting USA Curriculum© into their
classroom instruction in kindergarten through twelfth
grade. This curriculum is provded to the schools free
of charge. Then on Election Day students go to
official polling sites and cast their votes for the same
candidates and issues as adults.
Over 35,000 students in Bibb County's
public and private schools participate in Kids Voting
activities each year and have ever since Kids Voting Georgia
began in 1992. On Election Day,
hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers from all over Bibb
County public and private sectors work together to
ensure that students have an opportunity to cast their
ballots.
Is It Working?
Across the United States communities with Kids Voting
have seen a 7-10% increase in voter turnout.
In 1999, a survey conducted by the
Sociology Department at Mercer University determined that
students who participate in Kids Voting activities in
school are 12 - 19% more likely to register and vote
when they reach 18 than those students who did not attend
schools which had Kids Voting.
Our Missions & Goals
To promote voter participation and to educate children
regarding the voting process.
To improve citizen involvement in democracy of our
country by preparing current and future generations of
citizens to participate in their government.
To strengthen our democracy by helping students discover
the value and personal power within the voting process.
